Netflix

I got Netflix for the teens last month, and I just don't see its value. I looked for some classic movies (i.e. La Bette Davis) and found three. Looked for some old Mark Harmon movies and found one. All the good stuff is on DVDs for an additional $7.99/month. The teens say they like it because they can experiment with shows they normally wouldn't watch. I've actually watched more movies on Youtube.

I'm thinking of canceling the subscription. Does anybody know of a better substiitute for Netfix?

hulu is good for shows but has really really crappy bottom of the barrel movies. I have both. Netflix streaming for movies, hulu for TV.

Interesting. I thought Netflix had crappy and old movies. The most 'recent' I saw was Skyfall. Maybe I'm not doing something right in pulling up movies. Will check with teen movie gurus.

I use Redbox when I want to see something new. It's only 1.30 for a movie, which I think is fair compared to the cost of actually buying a DVD these days. Netflix isn't good for anyone who wants up to date content. I use it to watch old shows that I haven't seen. I haven't had cable in years, so Leverage, Burn Notice, and Monk are new to me. I watch maybe one or two episodes a week. My 3 year old watches an episode of SuperWhy a day and Sesame Street periodically. Netflix is worth the 8 bucks in that respect.

9:28 here. Netflix certainly doesn't have "new releases." you'll need to go to red box, or amazon for that. But if you browse the crapfest on hulu, the movies on netflix will seem downright A list after that. I can usually find something to watch, especially if it's older.

amazon prime's classic selection for streaming is a bit better but it also has a lots of stuff that you have to pay for individually to rent that are not part of it.

honestly, the best way to get classic fix without cable is to just download the movies from torrent sites.

MPAA are not busting people who download movies from the 30's and 40's.
