Summer soccer for 7 year old in DC?

Anonymous
Looking for options for my 7 yr old son to play soccer this summer. Not looking for camps - rather afternoon or evening or weekends. Interested in soccer clinics/ training or a league with practices and games. Thanks in advance!

A summer league for a 7-year-old? Really? the kid isn't even old enough for a travel team. If you want him to get more experience playing soccer, I'd opt for a camp that keeps it fun. Or even arranging something with similarly minded kids in your neighborhood. Clinics/training are really for older kids and a sure way to burnout if you start them that young. My kid started soccer around 4, plays travel and starts for his high school team. His coaches and trainers are recommending he and his teammates take most of the summer off to do another sport that doesn't stress the same muscles.

We just want something fun but we can't do day soccer camps because we have other childcare arrangements. Just looking for any opportunity for him to run around and play soccer during the summer, and the two parks closest to our house don't have good space or enough kids to make it fun. Any thoughts appreciated.

Grab a soccer ball and a pug goal and go to a park. Its the summer. Let him play for fun.

There are no games in the summer and, if I remember correctly, the practices begin in August. For this age group, the season just ended for spring.

U7/ U8 Developmental Academy

CapitalFC is now registering for its U7/U8 Developmental Academy. The focus of the program is teaching core soccer concepts and key foot skills to players that are looking to progress to play travel soccer. Boys and girls are welcome.
