I weighed myself this morning (TMI)

Anonymous
So, I weighed myself when I got up this morning. I then took a shower, pumped 5 oz of breast milk, and had a bowel movement. I weighed myself again with towel-dried hair and I gained half a pound! No clothes either time. How is this possible?

(Based on recent posts, I am now wondering if my pores were open and sopped up some water in the shower. )

Any ideas?

Ha! That happened to me the other day--didnt breastfeed, but weighed myself before and after a bowel movement and the scale went up.

Just goes to show how unimportant the number on the scale can be!

The scale has a margin for error. You didn't gain any weight or lose weight, that's just the margin for error.

Also, it's a balance system. If you moved it, the balance changed slightly and that changed the measurement.

Did you use a washcloth in the shower? It left bits on you.

It's actually water weight (combined with what PP said about margin for error). Water weight fluctuates throughout the day; more so at certain times of the month.

it's possible if you went outside to soon after your shower. live and learn.

do not weigh yourself daily, much less twice daily.

it is the recipe for frustration.

and, I never lost weight breastfeeding. It was like my body was going to do ANYTHING to keep on that extra cushion. Got down to pre-pregnancy weight within 2 months of stopping breastfeeding, both kids.

There is really no point in weighing yourself more than once a week, otherwise all you are picking in terms of change is water weight, scale inaccuracies and other unrelated issues.

The reason I weigh myself daily is that the habit is important. I know my weight fluctuates and I know the range is bounces around in. If it trends higher, it's time to fix it.

I never weigh myself. Numbers mean nothing. (same philosophy with age - means nothing! ha!)

It's how the clothes fit.

If I weighed only once a week, how would I know if I wasn't just bloated or dehydrated that day?

I only weigh first thing in the morning, naked, before showering.
