Question about morphology

Anonymous
My sister and her husband have been ttc for about a year. She is 32 and he is 34. Recently they started with testing and she checked out fine and he had a 2% morphology with first semen analysis and 0 about a month later. Their Re is suggesting they go straight to IVF. Should they even bother with trying iui? Will ivf even work for them? Tia

Iui= waste of time

Don't bother with IUI if the morphology is low. The RE is right.
IVF+ICSI is the way to go. At their age the chances should be good.

Yep, that's a very low morphology. IVF is the only chance.

Is he taking vitamins and wearing boxers? What caused his morphology to go down, I wonder?

Do as I say, not as I did--move right to IVF.

If they want to keep at it for years, they might eventually get lucky but IVF with ICSI will be the faster, clearer route.

My DH also had 2% morph, but somehow I thought we'd be the lucky ones--5 IUIs...5 BFNs. If I could go back in time, I'd slap myself for being so dumb, but we had a little coverage for IUIs and zero for IVF.

LOL. I think quite a few of us could slap ourselves for being dumb.

Thanks all! I think they are covered for 4 ivf treatments so I think they will move straight to that. I have no idea what would cause it to go down! He is very thin, athletic and healthy and she says wears boxers. I am pregnant so I feel even worse

My DH had 2% morph and I wasted 6 months in IUI. Useless.

Don't even do IVF--go straight to ICSI.

We were young, healthy, no female issues, and the onlyh male issue was morphology.
Wasted YEARS doing other stuff.

One round of ICSI--done.

I did the same with 3-4% morphology. Completely useless.

DH had 4% morphology and we got pregnant on the 4th IUI, but had a miscarriage. IVF without ICSI gave us a baby. The RE was not so worried about the low morphology since the count was high, giving enough normal sperm overall

Lucky you for getting in and out of the world of infertility so quickly you don't even know what you are saying. If ICSI, then IVF.

That is true with me too.

My DH has 4% morph and my RE hardly blinked an eye since apparently that's now "normal", so down the IUI road we go. But if you have less than 4% many advise that you need IVF/ISCI....others still don't blink an eye. makes no sense to me.

My husband had 1% morphology and we wasted our time on 4 or 5 IUIs (I had fertility issues too, but mine were easily dealt with). We were told we really should've moved to IVF. We didn't want to pursue any more fertility treatments, but had we wanted to, IVF-ICSI would've been our path. We ended up adopting and then I got pregnant very unexpectedly.
