Will you miss Jim Moran?

Answer: Absolutely, because he's such complete jerk and is a constant reminder that Old Town is getting what they deserve.

OTOH, I like Old Town, they deserve much better, sadly they won't be getting it with Don Beyer.

Good riddance to him. He was in office much too long and I am thrilled to see him go.

No. Psyched to have a rep who will be a good liberal AND not an embarassment. Vote Patrick Hope!

No! Micah Edmonds, here we come!

Beyer has this wrapped up. Good riddance to Moran.

Moran was ahead of his time He was consistently voting for humanity and not special interests.

He was active in preventing gun violence, and active in stopping Nixon's 50Billion wasted of war on drugs from 70's.

Back in the ’70s a big government commission recommended President Richard Nixon lift federal penalties for marijuana use. The Commission stated, “The actual and potential harm of use of the drug is not great enough to justify intrusion by the criminal law into private behavior, a step which our society takes only ‘with the greatest reluctance.” But scumbag President Nixon promptly ignored the famed Shafer Commission and started a 43 year-old Drug War instead.

Proving history is one giant loop, on Thursday, Rep. Steve Cohen – a Democrat in Tennessee – introduced a bill to create a new “National Commission on Federal Marijuana Policy”. The Commission would do the same thing as the Shafer Commission, perform a full review of the federal government’s current policies toward marijuana, given its legality in 19 states and growing. “Regardless of your views on marijuana, it’s important that we understand the impact of current federal policy and address the conflict with those state laws that allow for medicinal or personal use of marijuana,” states Congressman Cohen. “This conflict is only going to continue to grow over the next few years and we must provide certainty to the millions of individuals and businesses that remain caught in a web of incompatible laws. A national commission would provide us with the information we need to create sensible policy going forward.”

Even though the Commission would essentially duplicate the work of the Shafer commission and spend more federal dollars we don’t have proving what 90 percent of Americans already believe – the Drug War is a total failure – drug law reformers are lining up to support it. Rep. Cohen’s allies on the bill include Jared Polis (D-CO), Earl Blumenhauer (D-OR), Jim Moran (D-VA), and Sam Farr (D-CA).

Definitely won't miss this bloviator. His latest puzzling outrage is to oppose sensible FAA rules that would impose building height caps on aircraft approach paths close to major airports. It would grandfather anything built already. Moran is clearly listening to the jingle, jangle in developers' pockets and opposing the rules because he wants Rosslyn and Crystal City to be taller! Consider that next time you're flying into DC on a choppy night. Fortunately Moran will be gone soon and is unlikely to be able to torpedo these common sense safety rules.

Moran is a walking example of why we need term limits: 3, 2-year terms and you're out. That's what Thomas Jefferson envisioned: a citizen legislature; not career politicians bought and paid for with special interest dollars.

Unfortunately Jefferson probably never envisioned professional lobbyists and campaign donors with unlimited money to spend. Honestly, I think citizen legislators would get eaten alive by pros who will have thirty years' experience working the system, while wave after wave of new congressmen come in,unaware of how these guys operate.

I think he is the most genuinely decent, kindly, perceptive member of Congress of my adult life, we agree with his bills and votes somewhere in between 95 and 100%, and my family and I will sincerely miss him. Yes, I mean every word.
