Why do some parents look down on a kid in AAP who got in on appeal?
FWIW, my child is already in starting next year, first round. I'm genuinely interested. Can't we all admit that very, very, very few kids "need" AAP? Kind of annoying if you think your child "needs" it and then in a year you'll be stating your child is "thriving" in it. Truth is that many of us want our kids in it, many kids - both in and out of it right now - would do great in it - and that it isn't a "necessity" but simply a strong preference. |

It is only here that you see this.
In real life, parents have zero idea who got in first round and who got in on appeal. In addition, no one really cares either way. |
| Agree-DS is in AP. We do not know who got in on appeal. I have never heard any parents discuss this or even care. I only see this discussion here. |
| Actually they wear a star that says "In on appeal" in order to segregate those kids.... |
| Assholes! |
|
Truth is many of us don't care unless we have a really gifted child. And even then, some may opt for the neighborhood school if the child has no social issues.
Personally I care less about appeal v. first round than the fact that AAP standards have been lowered to accept so many who would do fine in base school. That is what is skewing many FCPS schools and hurting the overall system. |
| Yes, my blonde, blue eyed child belongs in AAP. The rest of your kids do not quite obviously! |
| And mine is clearly gifted unlike your s.... |
| PP, what proof of your spawn's giftedness? |

At center schools, this discussion is rampant. Not only who got in on appeal, but who is going to be in GE vs. AAP. It's ridiculous. |
+1000 AAP has created such unnecessary divisiveness, especially at center schools. The entire system needs a revamp. |
Not at our center. Must depend on the attitude of the parents. |
You know, if the parents acted like adults then it wouldn't be an issue except in very, very rare cases. |
| We know at our center because a second grade teacher said the number of base school kids admitted and we saw them at p the orientation. Anyone else was an appeal kid, but it shouldnt matter. |
