Lifestyle before TTC

We're going to start TTC soon, and I'm freaking out a bit about my lifestyle habits and how it will affect my fertility. I'm 35. I drink a couple "mugs" of coffee per day (~5 6oz cups) plus a cup of tea. For many years now. I drink in moderation, a few beers/glasses of wine per week. I plan to decrease both substantially while TTC, but would either have already damaged my fertility?? More concerned about the caffeine.

You won't damage your fertility with caffiene the way cigarettes can age and damage your eggs - however I doubt your mug is 6oz. The smallest size at Starbucks is 12oz and all of my fairly small coffee cups at home are more than 8oz.

The general rule of thumb is to stick to 200mg of caffiene or less. You'll have to decide how much you're comfortable with above or below that. You might want to read "expecting better" while you TTC.

I don't think you could have damaged your eggs by that. Best to cut most of the caffeine out now so that you don't go through headaches later on if you are pregnant. Look into some TTC diets - many people feel that they help.

Thanks- thats a relief. I probably didn't explain the quantity properly- my coffee mugs are large so that the amount is equivalent to about 5 cups in my coffee pot- which I'm pretty sure are 6oz.

I found it easier to cut my fully caffeinated coffee with some decaf to allow me still drink a similar amount.

Remember lots of hydration - especially around ovulation when you want your body to make plenty of egg white cervical fluid.
