How did you suspect and/or find out you had cancer (or how did a loved one)?

So many people seem to have cancer today. Makes you start to get paranoid about missing signs. So I am just wondering. If you or someone you know was diagnosed, did they have symptoms? How was the cancer diagnosed? Any type of cancer....

My dad thought he was having a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Turns out he did not have a heart attack, but he did have a spot on his lung. Lung cancer diagnosis came soon thereafter.

Early 40s, felt great. Went for a routine mammogram which lead to a breast cancer diagnosis.

A good friend of mine was just diagnosed. She found a lump during a self-exam (breast) and it turned out to be cancerous.

Are you the same poster that asked how many people you know have had cancer and how many died or survived?

Went in for my yearly GYN exam, and my doctor felt a thickening on the side of my breast. It never appeared on a routine mammogram a few months earlier. Turned out to be stage 2 cancer, diagnosed by a sonogram and biopsy. A couple other doctors said it was very difficult to feel, so I'm grateful I had such an experienced GYN.

Four years later I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Symptom was bleeding after periods had stopped.

God bless you! I hope everything is in remission.

I had been feeling tired, and losing weight. My internist responded that the weight loss is good, and the tiredness is from middle age.

About a month later, I hat a CT for other reasons (rule out appendix issues). The CT revealed a large tumor.

Tumor was removed, but they found a solitary metastisis (6 months later). The Met was removed.

I am 15 months out now, with No Evidence of Disease.

If so, you are a fearmonger, please stop obsessing.

This same topic comes up about once a month.

I had a similar situation and was diagnosed with Stage 1 lobular breast cancer which causes a thickening and not a lump so it may be harder to detect.

I'm so sorry PP. I miss my dad so much.

My dad started having reflux type symptoms with trouble swallowing. Medication did not help. He then was losing weight. Cancer of the upper stomach/lower espophagus found - stage 4. He made it months after that. He had a clean physical 2 months prior to diagnosis. Enjoy each day.
