2024 Boys Private School Results /Game Schedules/ Commentary

The SSSAS situation is a problem. In the past most of the top players were home grown long time students nurtured through ALC and Fort Hunt with good club experience. A handful left to go to Episcopal, Gonzaga and Bullis who would have made the program stronger. In the last five years I don't think very many impactful players came in as high school recruits. So are they not recruiting the right players, are those players not able to get in, or at this point passing on the program and looking elsewhere? But still the drying up of the homegrown pipeline is real. Curious to know how this compares to other places that don't start in 9th grade. Stronger consistent pipelines? Stronger recruiting from outside in middle and high school?

SSAS was as good as anyone in the IAC the last 10 years. A true dark horse and a tough out. The drop off was so quick and drastic.

This is a joke right? STA and EHS were awful, and they barely beat those two teams and got beat by the top of the IAC by double digits. They have some solid players but coaching is awful, and has been even back to the championship year. The coaching staff needs to be cleaned out and start over. But i thnk the 'bottom feeder' title is already well established over there in Alexandria.

I don’t think so. I think the point was they already are bottom feeders if they can barely beat the other perennial bottom feeders.

Isnt the real question for all three of those school, given the other DMV options, is the process reversible? I mean why risk your kids lax future at one of these places? Academics are pretty much a wash here or there, but if your kid loves lacrosse aren't you scuttling any of their dreams by taking a chance on SSSAS, EHS or STA? And at $50-60k per year, doesn't that put other options on the table that are either comparable or substantially cheaper?

The academics are not close to being a wash. That’s part of the problem at one of those schools, there are less athletes and more scholars! The lax star is likely not getting in anyway.

BUT

Another interesting and ironic aspect is that some of the “stars” from previous years at high school lax powerhouses are now at great colleges and in alum support programs (ie the path to jobs) that are run by dads with kids at one of those lesser lax schools mentioned. Why does a dad with a kid at high school x, who is helping a kid who graduated from a different high school and now attends an Ivy keep HIS kid at the school he is in when it underperforms at lax? In other words, if, hypothetically, SJC gets a kid to Yale and Yale kid is now being mentored by a super successful Yale alum (that wants his kid to go to Yale) isnt the Yale dad just going to move his kid to SJC from the bad lax school?

The reason STA sucks at lacrosse is because the music program is too hard to pass up. This has already been settled. No way to reverse this. Bassoons don’t miss.

This joke stopped being funny about 10 pages ago.

This post was definitely written by the mom who made the original comment about the STA music program. Keep the music program jokes coming . . .

Totally. But they are more successful and financially well off than you are. Can’t play music and play a game where there is no payoff and end up relying on STA dads/grads for jobs. I hope those wins do a lot for you because those losses really suck. And they last forever.

Did someone say something negative about mommy’s special boys at St. Alban’s?

The music program rant was so funny. Not even realizing that it’s an all boys school where half the league are coed schools.

It’s a hard life though when you are battling the conductor for players. Definitely a bigger hill to climb than any of the other schools deal with.

Keep the jokes coming but STA cares about sports and more importantly their alumni and donors do also. Coaching is already being reevaluated.

Already being reevaluated? Heeter was just hired as a full time employee in the last two years.

Honestly like the attitude. STA has legit athletic alumni. I believe it that they do care.

STA music program Mom wins conference MVP. Landon Mom who didn’t know hard hits were apart of good defense wins runner-up.

Was the SSAS JV any good? Or are they getting some strong public schoolers? Or is next year ANOTHER rebuilding effort too?

They were okay outside of the IAC but 5th in it. They have a problem with numbers too and could barely field both a jv and varsity team for the season ending tournament because players can only play on one roster.

He has been the head coach for five years now. Not sure what you are referring to with the full time employee comment.

IAC Championship will be a showdown this after between Landon and Georgetown Prep. Game time is 5 PM at Landon.

Despite Landon winning the previous meeting in a rather non-competitive game, expect this game to be much closer.

Prep seems to be playing their best ball of the season right now having taken it to Bullis twice in the past 2 weeks.

The storyline will be if the Lil Hoyas can contain the Bear's potent offense. Prep is stacked at the defensive end with several D1 commits but will it be enough to disrupt the Bear's offensive weapons? Having seen Landon play a few times this year, they can score in several different ways whether it be in transition or settled O.

A few observations:

Face-off X is about even.

Goalie play Landon has the edge.

Close Defense, Prep is better.

Settled Offense, Landon is better

Expect a close first half as both teams will be playing with nerves. Clearing will be critical in this game. I do think Landon has more depth and should start to pull away late in the 3rd / early 4th.

Prediction: Bears 10, Lil Hoyas 8

Good luck to both teams and hopefully the rain holds off!

He went from being an off campus coach who worked full time with Next Level to having a full time job on campus in the Athletic Dept.
