Why did you go to boarding school?

Was it your choice? Biggest impact? Would you recommend it? Did you send your children? Did you hate your parents for sending you?

Talk about a loaded question. Reminds me of "push polls" in political campaigns (bare knuckle advocacy disguised as a poll). "Did you hate your parents?" Hee.

I'll bite.
Note that I am from the Boston area where it's a lot more common.

I wanted to- it sounded like, and was, awesome! In 8th grade when I did the tours it felt like a combination of summer camp and school. I loved the idea of spending all my time making great friendships, being part of a community in a very unique way and having the chance at independence so early. Plus the education was great.

PP here- would I send my kids? Sure, if I win the lottery by then. My freshman year cost $14K all in. Now its more like $50K.

I didn't go to a boarding school, but many of my military brat friends did. This was 25 years ago, but sometimes boarding school is the best option when your parents are living overseas and moving every 18 months, or dad is on an unaccompanied tour. It provides consistency and stability and supervision that moving and changing schools that often lacks.
