- safe
- scenic - near water (20 min drive or less) - within 20 mins to small/medium sized town; movies, theatre, restaurants, culture Anyone doin this at small college town, resort area, country, beach?. |

Try this if you want to draw a 3 hour drive time radius around DC to see what towns are within that radius.
1. Go to maps.google.com 2. Click on My Maps 3. Click to browse directory of user content 4. Search for "ArcGIS Server - Service Area Analysis" Enjoy! |
| The Eastern Shore sounds like it would fit the bill. Chestertown, Rock Hall, Easton, St. Michael's, etc. |
| Second Homes are a time suck - don't do it unless you are old and want to spend your whole time on "chores" around the house. |
| Chestertown (college town) or Chincoteague (small town, access to beach/national seashore) are my favorites. |
| depending on the $ you have to spend, I'd look for something in the Bethany/Dewey/Rehoboth/Lewes area. The drive will be slightly more than 3 hours on holiday weekends, but shorter otherwise, and there's plenty to do. (there's more to do near Rehoboth than Bethany, but the beach in Bethany is less crowded.) |

Broadkill Beach, DE
It's a much better value than the other beach towns in DE. Much smaller and quieter, too. |
+1000 We loved ours, had it for close to 10 years but sold it this spring and it was liberating. |
|
Google shows Deep Creek Lake about 3 hors away- closer it you are in Montgomery County.
Any location will be a bear to get to on a Friday afternoon. |
| Deep creek is sooooo boring. What's your budget? You could build a new townhouse or sfh in Millville, DE five minutes from Bethany Beach. |
| Rehoboth, obvs. |
| St Michael's or Easton on the Eastern Shore. Chesapeake or North Beach on the western side. If it's more mountains you'd like, have a look at Berkeley Springs out in WV. |
+1 Salt water or lake, OP? What are your priorities? We are thinking of selling ours, and we walk to the beach. Why would you want to drive to the beach? Don't most people here buy beach condos? IDK, doesn't seem worth it, to me. |
