Sigh.....

Just a little rant to DCUM because I can't rant to those closest to me. I saw the text for a leaflet to be distributed by an activist group to the crowd at the inauguration. Lovely sentiment (nice that Obama won but people have to continue to work for change, it won't come from the top)......expressed in language that will appeal to people with graduate degrees. Way to organize the grassroots!

Huh?

I don't get OP's point either...

OP here. Sorry I wasn't clear. The point is that if you want to organize most people you shouldn't write a leaflet with language at the graduate school level, given that only about a quarter of Americans even have 4-year college degrees. (although a larger percentage have attended college.)

Also, these are folks who pride themselves on being anti-elitest and who care deeply about working class and poor people. But their leaflet is in fact designed to appeal to highly-educated people who already know the issues.

My sarcastic comment about the grassroots was that their leaflet is aimed more at grassroots graduate students rather than the average person.

I'm curious which group it was.

Maybe if the American "elite" went into community service jobs instead of law firms, hedge funds, etc. we'd have more intelligent leaflets....
