Beach with Tide Pools

Can anyone recommend a beach which has tide pools and lots of things to do nearby. I am thinking North Carolina beaches. We want to be able to rent a condo. Son will be 2 in the summer and I think tide pools would be great. Are their nice beaches (not too overwhelming) closer to home which have tide pools and lots of things close by to do with a 2 year old.

I was thinking Wrightsville Beach, NC, which I was at when I was 3, but that's a long time ago. but I think it was the beach with tide pools. Other places?
