Considering a trip to HHI and would love to hear comments on resort hotels, specifically Omni, Sonesta and Westin. We will be traveling with kids and know very little about the area in regards to what is a good vs bad location. Prefer to be beachfront.
TIA |
| I prefer staying in Sea Pines in a condo, the Marriott timeshares (which you can rent like hotels) are very nice. But all three that you mentioned are very nice and good locations to the beach and other activities. |
I agree with the comment about renting a condo in Sea Pines. We rented a house in Sea Pines one year and then a condo just outside of Sea Pines the next year. Both are fine, but Sea Pines is hard to beat in terms of amenities. If you don't stay in Sea Pines, you can get a day pass. |

We stayed at hilton head for our first time this past spring break. We stayed at the omni and had family staying at the westin. Omni is a very nice hotel and beautiful grounds. Two kids pools. One was heated the other wasn't. Big fire pits ( we roasted some marshmallows), ping pong, snow cones, beach rentals, small playground, and super easy access to beach.
Our room was huge. There was a kitchenette , small dining table, two beds and a big balcony. As this being our first time, I can't give you too much advice but the omni is a beautiful hotel right on the beach with lots of kids and families. We had some bad weather while we were here and ended up going to the Audubon nature preserve (think that's what it's called). Very nice trails and we saw an alligator sunning itself. Anyway, hope this helps a bit. |
| OP here...normally we would go the villa route but we have decided to do this last minute so there are few villas to be had particularly beachfront. Keep the comments coming please! |
| Went to the Westin for a wedding once and it was lovely. We also stay in a condo but for a hotel experience I thought it was great. |
Np here (and I hope I did the bolding properly). I'm also looking at the Westin and the Omni for an upcoming trip but am now wondering what the better amenities are at Sea Pines. Any insight is appreciated! |
| We go to hilton head every august and absolutely love it. We have stayed at four different marriott properties, surf watch, barony beach, grande ocean and Harbour club. We loved them all except for the Harbour club one which was just ok. Good luck and have a great time. It is a wonderful place to visit. |
| Is sea pines comparable to sea colony in Bethany? |
We were also there over Spring Break by stayed at the Sonesta. It was nice, but sounds like the Omni was nicer. (No playground, no kitchenette) But I liked the grounds of the Sonesta, and it was close. If you do go...you HAVE to eat at the Backyard Resturaunt! |
I'm the one who posted re the Omni and we went to the Backyard restaurant twice. The shrimp and grits were delicious. Would love to have them again. |
It is actually called the Lowcountry Backyard. Best restaurant on HHI. |
Ha! We went twice during out 5 day stay as well! Maybe we were there the same night! |
