We've known her about 4 years. We go to a family camp for a week every summer, and the local high school kids babysit when there is an evening event for the adults. That's how we met her, and she then went to college in my hometown so we saw her periodically after that. I really like her; she's solid, thoughtful, patient--sort of an old soul; a little different than my perception of your average kid of that age.
Anyways, not sure any of that extra stuff matters. Would like to get her something she'd like, but also in line with that we don't know her THAT well so don't want to go overboard either. Any thoughts? (even if you don't think it fits the criteria, I'd be interested in your ideas). Thank you! |
| Just do cash. It's impersonal, yes, but she'd appreciate and get more out of it way more than pretty much any other gift. |
| $50 |
| We had almost the same situation and just gave 100 bucks along with a nice e card. |
| A card with a few bucks and a small box to keep her odds and ins. I found some beautiful, inexpensive ones at Pier One imports of all places. |

OP here, ok re 21:05 recommending cash and an e-card--how can you give cash in an e-card? Don't I have to mail cash, and then might as well just put it in a real card? Sorry, I'm techno-dumb.
Also, is there a gift card I could send instead of cash? Some store that kids her age like? I like the small box idea, too, thanks PP. |
| Cash. If possible, have you child !take her a card. |
| Cash is the usual gift. But if you don't feel comfortable with that, someone gave DC a really cute (as in, attractive case) small toolkit with screwdrivers, a hammer, etc.... I think it came from Home Depot. DC got a lot of use out of it, hanging pictures, changing the dorm bed mount, and more. |
