Hi, my sister is considering moving to VA and is currently applying for teaching positions at DCPCS. If she were to land a position, can she enroll her children in that same school even if they live out of state? Is there a policy in this? Or is it up to the school administration?
Please shime in. Thanks! |
| Why don't you call and ask? |
| She will ask the question when and if she gets the position. It is not a decisive factor for taking the job, but a plus! |

She can pay DC tuition - and if all DC residents who want the spot 1st are offered it, and there are still spots, she can enroll them.
But - what DC Public Charter School? B/C some of them bend the rules more than others for teachers kids. |
| You have to be a DC resident to enroll in DC schools. It's not rocket science. |
| Not unless no one from the District wants the spot, and even if she gets it, she will have to pay tuition. |
+1. Duh. |

In the early years of some charters there were openings and some out of state children enrolled.
For example - Latin had spots at least the first year as did Yu Ying. Last year SELA was unable to the fill the school, some upper grades at IT have had less demad, as well as some select grades at Capital City. Friendship PSC (football powerhouse) has spots. I am not saying that there were tuition paying students from another state at all of these schools - just there were opportunities. In years past, when a school like Bridges or AppleTree went through the entire waitlist - if they were on my commute path I would have definitely paid tuition there as opposed to Day Care costs if I was a Maryland resident. It would have been cheaper. |
| Thanks pp for your inputs. Except the snarky responses. |
