| She's on cnn right now. I'm a guy so is never heard of her before but she caught my eye. She's really attractive. But then I googled her and she's also all kinds of crazy. That's the ultimate. |
| Oh Naomi Wolf? She's been around forever...I don't think she has a prominent place in public discourse like she did years ago, I am surprised she is on TV. Next we'll hear that Camilia Paglia is on TV. |
|
Since when does a being a guy preclude ever hearing of Naomi Wolf? That's just absurd. That's like me saying I'm a woman so I've never heard of ANY male author.
And since when is being a feminist (as Wolf is) "all kinds of crazy"? She's hardly radical. You've revealed a lot about yourself in your post, OP. And none of it's good. |
| Aw she's a hack. I saw her speak ages ago and she was so less than promised. |
+1 |
| She may be most famous for telling Al Gore what to wear and to be an alpha male in his presidential race. |
| I read her book, The Beauty Myth, long ago, and it had a strong impact on my thinking. |
I hear the name "Naomi Wolf" and the first words that come to mind are "earth tones."

Same here. She was quite prominent as a feminist writer at the time, kind of in the same category as Susan Faludi. I hadn't heard anything of her after her advisory role to Al Gore until the Tea Party emerged and she voiced sympathy to them. Before it was clear they were the crazy/racist/backward bunch that they mostly are, their message seemed more generally populist in the way that populism can be left or right. I'm guessing that when the movement went off the rails and became a reactionary freak show, her reputation took a hit with her progressive allies. I assume that her views were and remain liberal, but she just got caught in a political winds that were moving fast. |

The Beauty Myth. Also, the male gaze.
We were studying her shit back in 1989 wimmins studies. |
| Her book "Misconceptions" was all kinds of ridiculous classist bullcrap. Can't stand her. |
