Another suit question- what do you think of the suits from Ann Taylor?

Anonymous
I've been suit hunting and I found a couple of things I like on the Ann Taylor website, but I'm wary of AT because their quality has gone down in the past few years. What do you think?

I still buy a lot of things from AT, including suits. But it is hit or miss. I don't buy anything online anymore unless I have inspected it and tried it on in the store first.

I really like suits from Banana Republic. I think I have actualy had more luck with suits at BR than AT.

agree with PP: I look at AT regularly and most of my suits are from there but I was there earlier this week, and saw nothing. Lot's of cheap/fake fabrics.

Banana works but it's hard for my big assed body type (backside is a size 6, rest of me, 4).

I like Banana Republic a bit more, but don't mind Ann Taylor's suits.

Oh and pp, they sell them separately so you can buy larger bottoms and smaller top. I have the opposite problem, need smaller bottoms and larger top.

Sometimes you can find good stuff at AT.

BR is my absolute go-to, but you have to know your body - AT fits curvier gals, BR is a better fit for straight bodies and long legs. (I have zero hips, so on me the AT pants look like they have wings.)

Anyone have an idea of what brand is one step up from AT/BR? I have a number of both suits but would like something a little bit nicer.

Brooks Brothers

re BR and my big ass: I have a very small waist so I have to get size 6 BR pants taken in at waist and usually length which gets costly and anoying.

So OP, just try on some and you'll see if they work for you or not. I have no problems at all with BR skirt suits.

Last time I was at Brooks Brothers, I was really impressed with the quality of the women's clothing. I am pregnant now, but once I get this baby out of me, I'm doing some major back to work shopping there.

But doesn't BR offer free tailoring?

How do JCrew suits compare?

+1
AT is so much better for those of us who have to measure around the junk in the trunk, even if the rest of our body is small.

Thanks. I will check there. I wish there were other choices as well. I like BB but I find them a bit stuffy.

Jones New York and Anne Klein. Check out the Leesburg outlets.

Even if you find BB stuffy, you can mix up a conservative suit with a more fun blouse/accessories.
My advice is get the best quality fabric you can afford and get it tailored to fit your body.

That's a good point. I totally agree about getting the best quality. I wish there was something just a step below Armani.
