When are boys and mens shorts finally going to get shorter again??

Why are mens shorts so freakin' LONG?

I am shopping for shorts for my son for the summer, and it's so hot and muggy here I want to find him some that are lightweight and cool. But all the choices are so long! They don't have to be as short as running shorts, but something more in that direction. I'd also like to find some for my husband. Are they still sold?

Not really.. However you can get the nylon basketball type shorts that while long are still lightweight. Another option is to take any jeans that are too short or holes in the knees and cut them off and sew in a hem to keep them looking neat.

My kid is still little, but one pair of cargo shorts I got at Hanna Andersson were dragging on the ground. They were technically his size and fit fine in the waist, so I'm not sure who has the 5'7" 3yo who was used as a fit model. Yikes. Buuuut, I was pleasantly surprised to see that both Hanna and Gap have flat-front, solid, shorter shorts right now. I don't mind the regular cargo shorts that cover the knee, but ankle or low-calf length shorts are ridiculous.

Mens shorts have gotten a lot shorter recently. DH is 6'3 and really needs the 11inch shorts (they still are an inch or two above his knee). The longer is getting hard to find! 9inch seems more popular recently.

I hear you OP. I don't get the long shorts. I always liked the shorter ones. The long ones remind me of hoodlums.

LOL....my 4 yr old is wearing those shorts today. They look awful. I promise I'll pull them out of the rotation after I wash them. He got himself dressed this morning and was so proud of himself that I didn't want to tell him to change. But his "shorts" look like highwater pants.

They'll get shorter once guys realize that they're actually wearing capris and not shorts.

I HATE capris on men! Looks way to European and effeminate. Capris don't look good on anyone!

This. According to my teen sons, the shorts are shorter this year.

I like them long so my son does not skin his knees!

OP here. Thank you! I checked out J Crew. They do look better. Now if only I could bring myself to spend $30-60 on kids shorts! I just have to wait a year til they hit the thrift stores I guess.

As an aside, I do like capris on men. Just not those long and baggy shorts. They don't serve the purpose shorts should serve, so they just look dumb. (the purpose shorts serve, in my opinion, is to allow for maxiumum motion and to be cool in hot weather.)
