Bus or drive to New York?

Anonymous
We live in Bethesda, so vamoose or tripper would be convenient. Has anyone taken these recently? We have an 8 and 6 year old, going up Saturday morning, back sundaynight. Which would you recommend, bus or car?
Thanks!

Train.

Thought about it, but not worth the price after factoring in the schlepp to Union Station.

We drive to the BWI rail station from Bethesda and take the train. The garage is right at the station. Is so much easier than Union Station.

I take the bus all the time. LOVE it! Coming home from NYC is always a bit more of a hassle than going for some reason.,.there always seems to be longer lines/more people. but you can;t beat the price or convenience. It's also cheaper than driving when you factors in tolls and gas!! It's win win in my opinion

Bus for sure. Megabus has the most comfortable seats in my opinion

While traffic can be a pain (although it would affect the bus as well), I'd prefer to drive just to have the added control over timing. I think I would find it less stressful with the kids. We drove one weekend just DH and I and just parked at the hotel. Easy-peasy.

I live in Friendship Hts. Our family takes the Vamoose about once a month or so. Mainly because of expense -- 4 Amtrak tickets not reimbursed by your company = just too much for frequent pleasure trips NYC <-> DC.

I've noticed that my snobby single consultant acquaintances who inSIST on the Acela (gawd, the bus ?!?) never actually pay for their own Acela tickets out of pocket.

How is vamoose? Would we be likely to be able to sit together?

I took Tripper bus a couple years ago- it was easy and cheap but the driver on the return trip bordered on dangerous- as in made the drive in barely over 3 hours. I probably should have reported him. The way up was fine, still fast but not TOO fast.

I took Tripperbus to NYC just 2 weeks ago from Bethesda. Took the Saturday 7.30am departure and the bus left right on time and took 4 hours. Left NYC at 4pm on Sunday and took 4 hours as well. No traffic. Bus was comfy, clean, wifi, and power outlet. I would take this bus again the next time I need to head to NYC for a quick weekend getaway!

I've both driven and taken DC2NY many times since July and have to say bus is hands down cheaper and easier. WiFi and outlets at every seat; working bathroom, you can take food and drinks. We voted no stops and made good time. We could leave the car at Vienna metro for the weekend.

I prefer to drive. I usually go up very early Saturday morning-like 6:00. My son sleeps almost the whole way. Made it to Manhattan from Bethesda in less than 4 hours last weekend. Made good time coming home too.
I'll take the bus if I'm alone b/c it's cheaper.

Our daughter lives in NYC and we've gone up there every way...trains, planes, automobiles and buses. We like to drive when the weather is good. Fun fact...did you know there are many places in Manhattan where you can park on the street free on the weekends? We couldn't believe it. In DC, there are few urban places you can park for free on the weekend apart from residential neighborhoods.
