We're pregnant with #2 and we're thinking about upgrading our currently toyota corolla. Our car is fine but it's a pain to get my toddler into the seat and I would like something a little higher up. My DD is starting preschool in the fall and we're hoping that we can find a family to carpool with so ideally we'd like a car that can fit 3 car seats in the back (2 toddler seats and an infant seat).
We live in the city and we don't have a parking spot, so size is an issue. We have decent street parking but we still can't handle a huge car in the city. Suggestions? |

You might want a new car for other reasons but I don't think 2 kids necessitates a new car. The Combi Coccoro car seat is designed to fit three across even in small cars. We have an infant seat in the middle and a Combi on one side of our Honda Accord and can fit another adult in the other side fairly comfortably. And once I was pregnant with DC2 I taught DC1 to climb up into his seat, so it's no longer difficult to get him in there (would actually be more difficult in a taller car/SUV as he might not be able to climb up.)
It is a pain sometimes not to be able to fit more than 5 people in the car (like when grandparents are visiting), but to address that you have to get into significantly bigger vehicles. |

OP here. I guess I should clarify that we'd like a new car. Our corolla is much smaller than an accord. I believe an accord is similar in size to a camry. Two car seats (or hopefully three) just isn't possible in the corolla.
I would love suggestions! |

| We currently have a Toyota Matrix and can fit a Radian, Britax, and booster in the back seat. I feel like the Matrix sits a little higher than most sedans. We're going to look into the Prius V for our next car, since city driving uses a lot of gas, and the Prius V looks like it is similar to the Matrix. |

| IF you are going to carpool, seriously consider a minivan. |

A CR-V is on the civic platform, so it's not terribly big or long, but it's higher up. The gas mileage isn't terrible either.
We love Honda, so a CR-V would be a great choice. If you are more attached to toyota, look into a RAV-4, but I think a CR-V is just a better car. |

Most cars can fit 3 car seats, given the right combination of seats. We can fit 3 in a Ford Fiesta. Before that we had 3 in an older Ford Taurus.
Are you looking for an SUV? Many smaller SUVs backseats are about the same size as the backseats in sedans, they just are higher up. |
We were thinking about a small SUV just because it is easier to get in and out of. But size is a big issue. |
| Toyota rav4 is small and zippy. I heard that they can come with an optimal third row, too. |
| One thing to think about is that your kids will soon have friends and it is tough to carpool with only a 4 seater. I think Volvos have extra fold down seats in the back of the station wagons and SUVs. |
