New to area... wavy hair normally straightened - AAAAHHHH humidity

Anonymous
My hair is curly to wavy and fairly thin. I normally straighten it but with this humidity it just looks wavy in a bad way. What the heck do I do?

Go curly!!

Read Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl book. Then go see a good curly hair hairdresser.

I actually look forward to the humidity now that I've embraced my curls!!

I tried so hard to embrace my curls but I could just never get them to look consistently good so I surrendered, and got a brazilian keratin treatment.

Aren't the treatments terrible for you?

This is just the beginning. Expect a full-on Afro by July.

Embrace the waves. 95% do. Hell, my hair is straight and my hair starts to look wavy after a few weeks of sucky hot and humid weather.

Love this PHYTO product! It's so powerful on my hair that I only use it on rainy/very humid days. Otherwise, my hair looks TOO straight and flat. But in bad weather, it rocks!

You might also want to try the Living Proof cream. Different product entirely, but it works well on my hair:

Both are available at Sephora, I think.

Or go with the waves. Again, a good product seems to help keep the waves intact (rather than turning to frizz). The DevaCurl cream works well for me. YMMV:

And/or you might want to try a keratin-based conditioner and mist. I've liked the drugstore versions by Pantene.

OP here. I'm cool with the waves if I only knew how to style it so my hair looks intentional. The problem is that it just looks sloppy. How do I make wavy hair look good?

I gave up four years ago and did Keratin. I don't dread summer anymore.

You either have to go curly, use a ton of gel, or get a Keratin treatment in May every year.

Tell me more about the Phyto product? How do you use it?

Enlighten me. How are they not bad for you? I realize wiki isn't the best source, but what about all the negative side effects?

Have they changed the formula? Use different chemicals?

PP chooses not to acknowledge the risks. Admittedly, they are greatest for the workers since they're steeped in it day in, day out, but you wouldn't catch me huffing formaldehyde.
