Good internal medicine (regualr) doctor recommendation?

Hi there looking for a good internal medicine doc. I've been going to Dr. Esparraguera and just can't take it any more. I like her, but after years of no return calls and shitty office staff, I just can't take it (she also seems to push the meds the pharma reps give her, which I don't like). I have a good OB, but really just want a doc who can do the yearly checkups . BCBS insurance is a plus.

I like my GP, Dr. Julia Desiree Pineda. I've been going to her for about 12 years now. She is thorough and kind. I also think she's a lot like me (only a bit older) in that she was a career-oriented person, had a baby later in life, and is very engaged and passionate about what she does. When I first got pregnant, I didn't yet have an OB so she did all of my initital testing and shared so much about her own childbirth that I really felt almost like she was a friend. But she's not -- she's just a very empathetic practitioner.
Her office staff can be frenzied but they are very, very nice. Her wait times are not ideal, but for me it's not such a big deal. She clearly takes the time she needs to take with each patient. Another complaint I have is that she takes blood almost every time I'm in there. I've actually declined to do it more than once and gotten some flack from the staff, so I have to say it's not always pleasant to do that battle, especially when you're sick. Don't let those small complaints deter you, though. I should also say that I like her so much that when she stopped accepting my HMO plan, I bit the bullet and switched to a POS so I could keep her as my doctor. She's very good. |

Dr. Lisa Kaufman, 1145 19th St. NW #800 (on 19th just south of M), (202) 833-7051. Both my husband and I go to her, she's great. She takes BCBS, but I don't know if she's taking new patients, last summer, she was not. You sometimes have to wait - bc she takes her time with patients - but she's worth it.
