Question about satchel-type handbags

I'm looking for a new purse and saw a nice one at Nordstrom Rack that I really like and that is in my price point, but it is a satchel (I think that's what they're called--I mean they aren't typical "purse-shaped," but rounder, larger, etc.), and therefore to me it looks really awkward if one wears it on the shoulder, which is how I always carry purses. I just can't see on a logistical practical level always carrying my purse in my hands. So for those of you who use this type of bag, do you always carry it? Or if you carry it hanging on your shoulder, how do you get it to look normal? TIA.

If the handles are too short to comfortably wear over your shoulder, carry it in the crook of your elbow or get something with both handles and a long shoulder strap.
