Hiring someone to clean before we list our condo - do we tip them?

Anonymous
Never hired a cleaning service before and it's our plan to have it be this one-time thing before we list our place. Do we tip them?
Anonymous
I've never heard of anyone tipping their cleaning service, certainly not for a one time clean. If you had a consistent service you might give them something at the holidays, but I'm not even sure how many people do that (unless they use a particular person vs. having a service do it).

We did.

No! You're paying them for a job, right? Stop it with the tip-everyone culture. There were like 3 threads started in Off-Topic today asking about who else should be tipped. I can answer them all: NO!

Yes. Why be cheap?

No. You don't tip for a single cleaning. Maybe if you have a long time relationship, you'd tip at Christmas.

Seriously with the tipping.....

Huh. We tip our monthly cleaners every time. I thought it was the norm.
Anonymous
I didn't.

LOL. I really can't understand the tip jars at places that are basically fast food either, why do we have to tip everyone again? Someone help me out.

I only see this as effective if you see them ahead of time and can pass on that there's an extra $XX in it for you if you really make the place sparkle.
