Removing Skylights

Anonymous
The house we're interested in buying has 2 skylights in the master bedroom. How hard/expensive is it to remove these things? I had one in a place I rented and couldn't stand the light waking me up or the sound of rain on it.

why? Get some shades. This will be a major negative.

Removing them will be a major negative or leaving them in is the negative? I really think skylights date houses and would prefer it if they were gone.

We had a skylight in our master bedroom that leaked and we just took it out (because yes, it was loud and we had the shade drawn on it all the time anyway for sleeping).

It was a while ago so I don't remember how much it was but not a lot-- maybe $1-2,000?

Wow. Can't imagine turning your bedroom into a cave.

It's not a cave. There are 3 other large windows on the outside walls...

I have had sleeping trouble in the past and blackout drapes are a must while sleeping.

3 windows is not a lot for a master bedroom and is probably why they installed skylights.

I have 5.

I'm not trying to argue, but there are 3 banks of windows, so maybe they're doubles I don't know. It's plenty of light. I think skylights are dated and date the house. New homes don't have them anymore.

Leaving aside the silly hyperbole, I don't need a lot of natural light in my bedroom, and frankly I don't want that much either. There's probably an hour a week I'm in my bedroom during the day.
