choosing an OB in Arlington?

Anonymous
I am just out of the military and have always been told who my doctor will be. I have decided that VHC is my choice for hospital and now have it down between Dr. Crowther and Dr. Elliott. I am just curious as to how you went about picking your OB? and does anyone have good/bads on either doctor?
TIA for your help, sorry, I'm a rookie

I'm a patient of Dr. Elliott's and only have positive things to say about him and my experience with the practice generally. Dr. Crowther and Dr. Elliott share "on call" duty (as do several other doctors), so there's the chance you might end up with either of them when you deliver. Dr. Crowther has handled my care as the "on call" doctor twice, and she seems very nice. It appears her approach is a bit more "holistic" than Dr. Elliott's, if that makes any sense. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Best of luck and congrats on your impending arrival!

I saw Dr. Crowther (& the rest of the practice) for my first pregancy and was very happy with the care I received. I really liked Dr. Crowther for her laid-back "if it's not broke, don't fix it" style. Drs. Rossi and Masel are good too, but maybe a bit more conservative in their approach.

I second the PP's response. I initially chose Dr. Crowther after much research, and I love her style. In terms of choosing doctors, I choose her because I have a low-to-no intervention philosophy, and it was obvious from her on-line profile and other reviews that she fit the bill.

During my rotation through the practice, I have now seen Dr. Rossi a few times, and Dr. Masel once. I really like all of them, even though they are very different. Dr. Crowther is pragmatic and serious (in a good way), whereas Dr. Rossi is a character -- really funny and warm. In the end, I am going with Karen King (their midwife), but if there was a problem and any of those doctors had to attend to me, I would be extremely comfortable.

And you should definitely understand that (with only a few exceptions) Dr. Crowther will only deliver your baby if she is on call. I didn't realize that at first, so now I realize that researching the PRACTICE is just as important (if not more important) than selecting one particular doctor.

I also LOVE the organization, efficiency, and cleanliness of the office. I had a long wait only once - usually it's 10-15 minutes max. The nurses are super nice. And during the two times I needed to talk to someone a.s.a.p., the nurses and on-call procedure worked really well. So I recommend the practice 100%. And I am a huge fan of VHC, even though I haven't delivered there yet ... hope I still am after delivery! Good luck.

I also chose Rossi/Crowther/Masel/King, and really liked them. I saw Dr. Masel more frequently, and she delivered my daughter. Both she and Crowther have a great patient manner about them--I never felt rushed; they answered all my questions clearly and directly. I also never felt lectured to by either of them--they made me feel like a team member, rather than a patient, in the birth of my child.

I see Elliott and Lashgari. Wonderful and very caring! I had a miscarriage with my first pregnany with them and I have never felt so supported by doctors. They both came to see me in pre-op before my d and c to offer sympathy. When I got pregnant again, they both were so wondeful and have been great with lots of questions this go-round. I figure I have seen them in the worst situation, so I know they will be great when baby comes. I also have many friends who recommended them, as well as my primary care physician.

I have been going to Elliott and Lashgari for a few years now based on many referrals in my office. I couldn't say enough about them as a general woman just getting annual checkups. Now that I'm pregnant, they are still just as wonderful.
