Ashley Newhall of Philadelphia has a law degree and a master's in agricultural law, and she passed the bar in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. These days, she's working with some extremely demanding and exacting clients.
Most of them are less than 3 years old. Newhall's primary income source for the past few years has been baby-sitting. Parents, said Newhall, are "blown away. They're like, 'Oh my gosh! You're the most overeducated nanny I've ever had.' " But jobs are scarce, and all that education came with six-figure debt for Newhall, 28. Along with two other jobs, she said, "the nannying is keeping me afloat." Continue: http://www.mcall.com/news/mc-phila-nannies-20140503,0,4716071.story |
| No kidding. I have a master's, and I'm a nanny. |
| Sounds like a bogus trend story. |
| This is my life! |
| Nannying in a nanny share actually pays quite well, although not well enough to service a law school debt load ... |
| I was a nanny with a Master's degree too. I couldn't find a teaching job (elementary teachers are a dime a dozen) but I needed to work and pay off my loans. I now have had a teaching job for a few years but I made sure I applied with top agencies. I worked for a very wealthy family who wanted an educated nanny. I actually now earn the same amount after 3 yrs of teaching that I did as a nanny. |
| I'm well-educated and I'm considering it. |
| I know a girl with a ba who makes $125k as a live in nanny. She doesnt pay rent, pay for a car (provided), or meals (provided). She is banking the coin. I dont see this as a problem. |
| There is always going to be a horror story about a well educated person doing something below their training. |
PP here. That's an incredible set-up. The family must be very wealthy to pay that kind of $$ |
I think your friend is full of shit. |
| The economy stinks. |
If she is a 24 hour nanny, this is realistic. |
| Obama.... The name just oooozes quality. |
Aw, bless your heart. |
