3 year old asked "who is God"

How would you /have you answered the question "who is god" from a 3 year old? What do you p ersonally believe, and what would your answer be? How and when do you explain dinosaurs and the big bang theory, and is that in any way related to your conversation about god?

I have decided that my son will be attending a liberal Christian church during his childhood, so as the questions come up at a going age, he gets the party line. If he questions later, I'll be okay with that, as I'm not sure what I believe anymore. The church we attend is in line with my general beliefs in terms of good works, non-discrimination, etc, so if he gets that general framework during his formative years, not sure if I care whether it's because some guy in the sky says it, or it's just because there are some moral absolutes independent of a deity.

That's a lot of unrelated questions you are asking. Obviously you will get various answers on here, from those who believe and who don't. Isn't it easier to ask, "My 3 year old asked who God is, my family believes in him (or not), what would your age appropriate response be?"

Op here...I don't necessarily want people to tell me how to handle it; I want to hear how others would or have.

An imaginary sky fairy that some people think is real.

For a 3-year old God is like Santa Claus, TinkerBell, the Tooth Fairy and other magical beings. They all work together to help people and make people happy.

Explain as related to your family's belief system. There is no one right answer.

That's what I'd say -- that God is like Santa Claus and the Easter bunny, but he's around all year long, and he's mainly for kids. Then when the kids grow out of a need for santa, et al, they will grow out of god too.

So why inculcate him with something you are not sure you believe yourself? Why not take him to a Unitarian congregation or an Ethical Society to get the same moral training without the questionable deity.

God is who snarky DCUM people, Hillary Clinton , Oprah Winfrey and Howard Stern will be on their knees in front of unable to lift their eyes and make any case that they were good. Just like all the rest of us.
