They always take some for K but the number varies. I think its been as high as 13 and as low as 6. It depends on how many PKers stay back, how many folks move away, and then, that remaining number moving up from PK, is affected how many priority candidates have waited until K to apply. But, yes, they always take some at K.
Lots of students really do stay until 8th and the numbers have been increasing steadily over the past few years. They can not however accomodate the entire 6th grade class. In the past that was not an issue, however, as the program has become more developed and more praised, many more are opting to stay. Last year, for I think the first time, the families of 6th graders had to tell the school if they were staying for 7th and 8th in either the Spring of 5th grade or fall of 6th (so, before they had even applied, much less received notification from next step schools) but I can not recall exactly when.. Clearly, it is no longer a fall back poisiton/choice. You have to actively My impression is that it is an excellent program. We haven't decided whether to keep our children there that long and have started talking about it. Its a difficlut decision to make. Also, since they are buil;ding a high school that si another factor to consider. These are great questions to ask if you take a tour or have an interview. |
What (next) schools would you consider instead of St. Patrick's? |
| Well, we have always been proponents of single sex so we will look at Landon and STA and Holton and NCS. Honestly, we are not interested in leaving St Patrick's for another co-ed school before 6th/8th. The reasons we would leave sooner rather than later are not even about St Patrick's. Its because we have heard that it is easier to get in to the area single-sex schools in the younger grades and it is easier for the kids to acclimate and become part of the class in the younger years. The latter reason actually holds more sway with us as we do have quite a bit of faith in the St Patrick's academic program and in our kids as desirable students/people. However, we are also interested in boarding school as both our families have leagacy status at some excellent schools and, if a child professes a great deal of interest in boarding school and co-education, or we think its a good idea for a child, then we will stay at St Patriocks and go that route. So, lots to consider. I would also venture to say that many St Patrick's parents feel similarly. |
| So what happens if you want to stay for 7th and 8th and there isn't enough room? How do they select? |
| I am not aware of that being an issue yet, of course it may happen at some point... That would also be a good question to ask at an admissions event. |
