Get a cupcake and/or coffee at Baked & Wired on the canal in Georgetown. Walk down to the waterfront.

I went to Rasika on my last first date. Heavenly.

Brunch at Founding Farmers, and a walk down to the mall if there's chemistry.

Cheesecake Factory. Or Olive Garden -- bottomless salad, yum!

Why don't you tour the cathedral? http://www.nationalcathedral.org/visit/dailyTours.shtml I always like having an activity on a first date - makes it so much easier for me, especially if it's not a competitive thing! You don't have to be Christian to enjoy the beauty of the building.

It has been a long time for me, and it would depend on the circumstances....If it was the first date with someone I knew, dinner would be in order.

From match.com or other internet things, it would be coffee or lunch on a weekday. The latter was bounded by time. The former, more open ended.

I found that dinner for a match.com put me in an uncomfortable situation once. I am male. The woman had a fight with her roommate, and was in a bad mood...and she wanted to hang out. I was not having a great time, but felt obligated to hang out. Then, she came to my house, and spent the night, as she did not want to go home.

So there was just no way you could have told her NOT to come to your house? She held you at gunpoint and forced you to let her stay the night, right???
