We took DD to the USVI when she was 8 months old, and even though they're not the BVI, I would imagine much of what I'm going to say would apply there too.
(1) Immunizations - I think you're fine. Check with your pediatrician. If you feel comfortable taking a 2.5 month old on a flight to, say, Denver, you should be okay flying to the VI.
(2) The biggest PITA I found with the trip is taking the ferry, which we had to do to get to St. John. So it was plane, car rental, drive to the other side of St. Thomas, take the car ferry, drive to the hotel. I don't know where in the BVI you're going, but I know some places are accessible only by ferry, and at the very least you'll have to switch planes at least once. It may not be an issue for you though - my child as an infant was not mellow and did not sleep. So no napping on the plane for her, which made traveling, and the many legs of our trip, a real pain.
(3) The BVI are I belief very very safe. I think St. John (which is considered very safe) occasionally has issues with villa break-ins, but I haven't heard of the same problems in the BVI.
(4) For time on the beach, consider getting full-length sun protection suits for baby. I got swimsuits for DD from onestepahead.com, but I believe coolibar.com may sell them as well. Since you can't put sunscreen on a baby that young. Oh, hats too! And One Step Ahead also sells collapsible beach tents - they're really small and convenient, and they're great for letting your DC have a nap out of the sun.
