I purchase some groceries, kid stuff like diapers/wipes and also some home stuff such as detergent, cleaners etc. I do go there every week. I always use an AMEX card, which get me points that convert to dollars on amazon, which don't exactly amount to much.
However, I am tempted by the 5% off and the free shipping on the debit card. I am not interested in their credit card. DH and I are not over shoppers and we always stick to the list. Do you like your Target debit card? If not any reasons? Thank you! |
You mean the Target Red Card? Yes, I like it: 1. 5% off 2. additional discounts sometimes for some things 3. free shipping 4. link it to your kid's school and they will donate % to the school for every $ you purchase With the recent Target credit card theft, they said the RedCard was safer than using your regular CC. |
| Love it. Wish I had done it sooner. |
+1. No idea why I waited so long. |
Me, too. Got mine last year. |
| Thanks PPs. One more question - how is their shipping? Do you get stuff within a week? |
| Love mine too. I don't really shop at Target online so I'm not sure about shipping. |

I have the Target credit card. At the very least it saves the tax on everything, plus free shipping.
I don't do debit cards. |

I have the Target Red Card credit card. Pay it off every month (along with all of my cards) and don't carry a balance. I love the fact that I can return things without a receipt, get 5% off, and get free shipping ordering off the web-site.
That said, be very careful about the debit card. Due to the recent credit card protection laws, you are very well protected from fraud and identity theft on your credit cards. You can be held responsible for up to $50 of loss from credit fraud and most of the time they'll wipe it off your account without costing you a cent. With a debit card you have very little protection. You are fully protected if you report the fraud or loss immediately. You can be held responsible for up to $50 loss if you report with 48 hours. You can be held responsible for up to $500 if you report between 2-60 days after loss. And you will be fully responsible for an unlimited amount if you fail to notify your institution within 60 days. So, if you only check your debit card balances and transactions once per month or even once per week, you are likely to be responsible for up to $500 loss. When the Fed reviewed the credit card laws they explicitly excluded debit cards and there is very little protection for loss from debit cards. |
| Saves tax? |
Huh? No, you still pay tax although with the 5% discount it almost nets out. |

I have the Red card and I'm very happy with it. I also recently ordered a couple of chairs from Target (these chairs -- they were on sale: http://www.target.com/p/lucy-diner-chair-set-of-2/-/A-B00024CPQG0) and it was nice to not have to pay shipping, though the shipping was not particularly fast. I'm sure it'd be faster on regular items.
I go to Target pretty often -- the prices on lactose free milk are very good compared to the regular grocery stores -- and I can always find enough other stuff there to make it worth my while. |

Fwiw, you can return without a receipt using any credit card, not just target.
I don't do debit cards either. If you pay them off monthly, what's wrong with a credit card? Way more protections than debit cards, as PP mentioned. |
