Shampoo plus conditioner - why not?

Anonymous
So I normally use pretty pricey (for me, anyway) $20ish shampoo and separate conditioner. In a pinch a couple weeks ago I grabbed the Suave Kids 2 in 1 bottle that I use on my boys since I was in a super hurry... and it was fine! I've used it now several times in the last couple weeks and notice minimal difference. DH even complimented my hair the other morning which rarely happens. It's quicker, cheaper, and smells really good - so what's the problem? I seem to remember it is a no no to use 2 in 1, but can't remember why. Anyone know?

I would think maybe it's not conditioning enough. Do you have processed or dry hair? If not it then it probably is fine indeed.

I need more conditioning than that, as does my DC. I'm also sensitive to SLS, so Suave is generally out of the question for me.

Salon-industry BS. Use what works on your hair.

I tend to agree. I have used low end products that were awful to my hair and likewise I've used expensive products that were awful.

I use $3 shampoo and conditioner from the grocery store, and have used $6 2 in 1's. They dont seem to make any difference for us over the expensive ones.

Cheapies are full of silicones, parabens and sulfates which build up on/dry hair. This is really tough on curly hair, causing frizzies. And much of the time, straight hair gets weighed down and limp. So, cheap stuff works for some people, but not most.

Can you recommend a good line of shampoo/conditioner? Thanks!

I have very dry, very curly hair. I have had very good luck with Suave Professional Humectant shampoo and conditioner. They were recommended by my cousin who cuts hair. I buy the huge bottles at Target.

I think switching out products occasionally does help your hair -- but its temporary.

I loved Dove shampoo and conditioner when it first came out. But over time I know it built up crud in my hair. A $1 bottle of Herbal Essences Clarifying cleared that out.

I find the combo shampoo/conditioner leaves way too much crud in my hair. It builds up really fast.

I like Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle and Phyto products.

if it works, use it.

For me, I only use shampoo once a week, conditioner 3 times a week. (The other days I wear a shower cap.) It took me 40 years to realize that is what works best for my hair, I don't care what anyone has to say about it.

Use vinegar to get rid of all of the build up in your hear. It really works.

Not the PP, but I've been using Jonathan Masters Organics 2 in 1 for years. Takes a week or so for hair to adjust to the lack of sulphates, but once it does, hair is much less greasy; I washed every single day for 20 years but now every other day at most.

The 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioners weigh down my very fine, very thin hair too much.
