Anyone use meal delivery service?

Anonymous
Well I guess its actually Ingredient delivery and you do the cooking. I have two friends who seperately sent me links to try either Blue Apron or Plated. I pick the recipes and its all the ingredients come pre measured in a box to my door and then I cook it. I guess my first concern is the price but also whether this will get stolen off my front porch. I guess its some type of refrigerated box. Just curious if anyone local has used this type of service and how they like it. (Its like "Lets Dish" but they just do all the pre measuing for you and send to you).

So you were hired yesterday?

I used Plated once because they offered the box of 4 meals for just a $20 shipping fee. At that price it was well worth it and the food was good, but I cannot justify $10+ per serving for something I still have to prepare and cook myself.

There have been multiple threads in the last few months on these types of services. Check over in the food forum.

I've used both. Blue Apron is a better value ($60 for three generous meals that feed 2-4 of us) and in some ways it has saved my sanity. The "what's for dinner" question used to kill me.

I really enjoy the food/recipes - delicious and varied
Ingredients are high-quality
I don't have to go to the store and know I have everything I need
No waste because they give you exactly the amount you need
All the recipes can be made in a reasonable amount of time on a school/work night.

I like Plated. I receive 2 meals each week. I don't go out to restaurants much, and I like to cook. This is how I justify the cost. I also find it to be cost effective, because I do not have to buy large amounts of wasted ingredients. I have also tried Relished Foods and Peach Dish. I was not pleased with their services.

Not the quoted poster, but I think it's probably because this is asked and answered weekly in the Food forum.

Yes, thank you, PP -- it is a regular post, no doubt from someone who works at one of the two services which are always mentioned.
