That is how I feel about defence spending considering the DOD/DOW has never passed a financial audit and cannot account for where taxpayer money is used (and no it is not because of "classified info" - on audits it is because their systems are archaic and wasteful and incompetent) |
These numbers are bigger so we should perhaps start here? How is it that the DOD cannot figure out 7 trillion worth of accounting? "About 58 percent of the material the Pentagon possesses ($36.9 billion worth) are items it does not need. Over the past three years, the Navy lost track of $3 billion in equipment and other items. At one distribution center for the Navy, there was a backlog of over 122,000 items that had not been properly processed, leading the Navy to purchase items it didn’t need. The $600 billion Pentagon inventory of weapons systems and other items failed to include nearly $6 billion in Army communications defense equipment, $7.6 billion in Navy aircraft engines and about $7 billion in Air Force electronic pods that attach to warplanes. The GAO testimony follows a March report by the office of the Defense Department’s Inspector General that concluded that the Pentagon’s books were in such disarray that they couldn’t be audited. In fact, the Pentagon’s books are in such poor shape that the military’s money managers last year made almost $7 trillion in adjustments to their financial ledgers in an attempt in make them add up. The Inspector General also concluded the Pentagon could not show receipts for $2.3 trillion of those changes and half a trillion dollars of the adjustments were corrections of earlier mistakes." https://www.taxpayer.net/budget-appropriations-tax/why-cant-the-pentagon-pass-an-audit/ |

And here is one example of Defense contractors stealing taxpayer dollars with fraud, how much else is our there while Trump wants to throw money at the Pentagon like confetti without being able to account for where it goes?

It's a good idea to talk about this fraud, but it's a far better idea to talk about CMS fraud, including for hospice or related fraud for daycare. If you only want to cut DoD spending, it would seem you want more spending for the other frauds you ignore. |
The way to do that is single payer/universal. Because what we have now is basically a bunch of middlemen and insurance companies taking the fat, rather than taking the fat out. |
No, healthcare spending increases as national income increases. All single payer does is shift how the care is rationed. Yes, there are middlemen taking a fat chunk because the free market is not allowed to operate. You want them gone? Make all insurance catastrophic and watch medicine reform overnight, especially if you repeal EMTALA so deadbeats can't get free healthcare at the ER. |
I do not want to live in a country without EMTALA. |
|
⬆️deadbeats or, you know, your loved ones if their wallet is gone (car accidents, muggings). Or if computers are down or slow and their identity or insurance can’t be verified. EMTALA ensures they will still be stabilized and treatment will be begun.
In other words, let’s not repeal EMTALA. It benefits everyone. AND, there is tons of fat in healthcare spending. Where I work, we have multiple people just to handle the various insurances we take and pursue prior authorizations. And the insurance companies are making record profits. Maybe that money could be spent on healthcare? |
So if you have a stroke while going for a walk and don't have your ID/insurance card on you, you just die cause the hospital cannot take you without evidence of insurance? Jane Doe in an accident and unconscious, can't get healthcare without proof of insurance? |
Sure, repeal EMTALA. I hope you bleed out in triage because you left your wallet on the kitchen counter and no one can prove you deserve medical care. |
