achilles issue

So, after being rather inactive for many years (2 kids, working mom, you know the story), a not so great cholesterol and blood sugar reading at a recent physical has kicked my 41 year old butt into high hear on exercising. (I'm not really overweight - would like to lose 10 pounds for appearance reasons but weight is considered "normal" just really unfit)

After a few weeks, however, my achilles is giving me some trouble. Sometimes it hurts, and other times I get this sort of creaky feeling when I move my foot/ankle.

I really, really don't want to stop exercising. I feel really good about it and am enjoying it and think it's important. I've been walking intensely on the treadmill, running and doing dance or kickboxing exercise videos.

Any tips for dealing with the achilles issue? Do I really need to take time off? any thoughts...

Build more slowly - quit doing your exercise "intensely."
