I recently had my longish hair cut into layers. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit my style at all, plus it's more maintenance than I'd wanted. My hair used to be stick-straight, but as I get closer to 50, it seems to get wavier every year.
Any advice for or links to an easy-to-maintain bob? I really want to avoid the mushroom look, which I've experienced in the past thanks to my crappy blow-drying skills. |
| I've had a bob forever and I avoid the mushroom look by having the hairdresser thin my hair out towards the ends. |
| I ask for a long bob with "blended layers." It usually works, but my new hairstylist gave me mushroom layers, so I need to find someone else to fix it. |
| I've had an asymmetric bob for the past few years where the back is shorter than the front- it really helped to keep the "mushroom" look away. |
OP here. That's what I'm looking for. What's your styling routine? I don't want to commit to something I can't maintain, and my mornings are really rushed. |
| NP - I have perfectly straight hair and am afraid to cut it into a bob for fear that it will just hang. Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions? |
This is a reverse mullet. No amount of mushroom bob could be worse than a reverse mullet. |
PP here. I use a pea-size dab of Big Sexy Hair's Blow Dry Volumizing Gel on my hair then flip my head and blow dry. I occasionally use a round brush if I'm trying to get more of a curl on the ends or get some extra body on the top. It takes about 10-15 minutes. If you're looking for pictures I used Victoria Beckham as my original inspiration but told my stylist that I did Not want the back to be super stacked. Mine looks similar to this: http://www.crushbeauty.com/bob-hairstyles-2/asymmetric-bob-without-bangs |
I'm the PP with the asymmetric bob. My hair is naturally stick straight so I use a volumizing gel and then blow dry with a round brush to get the ends to curl under a bit. Also, depending on the shape of your face you might actually look great with the ends straight A good stylist should be able to make sure the front hits a flattering place.

Thankfully I have the bone structure to pull off an asymmetric bob without issue! |

Thanks for the info and the link--it looks gorgeous! |
This is a logical fallacy. An asymmetrical bob looks good on absolutely no one (and yes, people will lie with compliments, because it's the polite thing to do) |
Victoria Beckham in 1990? That's almost 25 (!!!!!!) years ago. It did not look all that great then, frankly. NP here. |

Asymmetric bobs are seen on every housewife/SAHM I know. I hate them.
