Hi, what would you do if you were in this situation?
We are a family of 3 with a $70k combined income. We currently live in PG county, own our place and we like our neighborhood, but both my partner and I work in DC. We have a 3 year old child who is currently in daycare full-time and hope to have a second child soon. My partner is an elementary teacher at a well regarded DCPS. For us it will make sense and it will also be easier in terms of logistics for our daughter to enroll in the same school (PK3-5 grade) where my partner teaches. However, we will need to move to DC and rent an apt/basement probably less nicer than what we currently have. My questions are the following: If we were to move to DC and keep our place in MD? what are the tax implications? Would you sacrifice/trade a comfortable home for a not so nice neighborhood/housing if you were to save $ (basically 24 months of child-care for DC#1 and also in the future for DC #2 ) since in DC children can enroll in PK3 instead of K in MD? What other aspects am I missing? I'll appreciate any feedback you can provide. |
| It will be tough moving from pg to dc on that income. |
| Is the DCPS one that has spots for all PS and PK inboundary kids? Many do not. I would make sure of that before you move. |
