Trying to plan a cruise around cycles

Anonymous
It's going to be my husband's 40th and it's been his dream to do an Alaskan Cruise. We were aiming for 2 weeks in July. The problem is that we would have to book in advance which makes me nervous because we are just starting to try medicated IUI's after a miscarriage. My beta for this round is next week and then if negative we obviously try again. I'm worried if I do get pregnant than I'm not sure how I would handle a boat and how my energy level would be - plus I may be considered high risk because of the miscarriage and my age. If I'm not pregnant, I will try to have the trip scheduled around my cycles - my cycles are very regular. Does the medication alter when your cycle comes? Should we book this trip or hold off?

Hope this post makes sense. Any and all advice is welcome! I'm trying not to let this infertility stuff suck the joy out of my vacation time/planning!

Don't put your life on hold waiting for a what if. Book the trip. If you're pregnant you'll be so happy you won't care if you puke the whole time. If you're not, you'll be glad to have something to take your mind off it.

Also talk to your nurse who can help you map out your cycle dates. I travel for work and have done this through 3 ivf cycles.

Yes, the medications alter the length of your cycles, but you can always skip a cycle around the time of the cruise. Have fun!

Agree with 7:56. Please, please, please don't put your life on hold or give up opportunities just because you're TTC. IUI s are pretty easy to schedule and handle, and you can do them every month, so worst case you take a month off and enjoy yourselves. Don't neglect your marriage for TTC.

I Agree with everyone that says not to put your life on hold. I'm actually going on a cruise to Europe for 2 weeks and then 2 weeks more around Europe and I was trying to figure out how to coordinate fixing my thyroid after my 2nd mc and all the battery of tests from last month and a half. I decided I was just going to go ahead and plan my vacation/honeymoon and just hope everything works out by itself. And it did. Now I'm leaving for my vacation with my meds, my new prenatals and ready and hoping that when I come back my new round of tests show improvement so we can try to TTC again after that.

It's important to maintain our relationships with our hubs while TTC. All these takes such a tremendous toll on us and them and both as a couple, we need to take care of it too, IMHO.

I agree; take that month off. I agonized over taking a week long trip between cycles but am so glad I did. We took one month off (as it turned out, after a failed cycle and before another failed cycle) and it helped us reconnect as a couple, not just wannabe parents, and gave us a happy moment in a pretty sad year. As it turned out, we got pregnant about 4 months later, so it also became our last vacation as a couple for many years! An Alaskan cruise with a baby or toddler would not be much fun, so go now!
