I have pregnancy symtoms but am not pregnant

I have nausea, feel tired, gaining weight, breasts are sore...so each month, I think I may be pregnant. Then, I get my period. What is with the pregnancy symptoms? Are they just wishful thinking?

Pregnancy symptoms very much resemble PMS so it's normal that you would feel symptoms that resemble pregnancy symptoms just before your period. It's due to the fact that your progesterone level rises after ovulation and for the two weeks preceding your period; progesterone is also what causes pregnancy symptoms. If you are pregnant, your progesterone will continue to rise and thus the symptoms will remain and become stronger whereas if you are not pregnant your progesterone will go way down a couple of days before your period and that is what will cause your period to come. As I am sure you noticed, once your period is there, the symptoms disappear, that's because the progesterone is back to being low at that point and it will be low until you ovulate again.
