Confused about how charges post to my credit card

Anonymous
I just paid the bill for my Amazon rewards credit card, which I use to shop on Amazon but also other places. I am unable to reconcile the Amazon purchases listed on the statement with my Amazon order history. They don't match at all, in terms of exact amounts. That is, my card might be charged twice on the same day at $30 each charge, whereas I spent $70 on Amazon in that time period but not in $30 increments (and it's not clear where the other $10 went: perhaps added into another day's charge?)

How do I tell whether I'm being charged correctly, when charges post this way?

If the only answer is to total my orders and total the Amazon expenditures on my statement, how do I know what time period to look at given the delay in charges posting?

Call them and ask. I would assume that that the charges would match your order history, but maybe they're billing as they ship and things aren't being shipped together.

Amazon charges as shipments are sent, not order total when you check out. Download an order report from your amazon account and reconcile it with your cc statement. There is a reference number that will correlate for each transaction.
