Boys Gymnastics... Capitol (Burke) or Fairfax

Anonymous
We have been at Chantilly Academy for a while and am looking for a good boys program that has a competition team in the event my ds (age 6) continues to love gymnastics. We have enjoyed Chantilly but I think they sometimes "phone it in" with the boys there since they don't have a competitive team. We are not Olympics bound in any way, but want a good solid program. Any advice?

Fairfax seems to take their boys gymnastics program seriously. No experience with the other one mentioned.

Thank you! I think we will try a summer class there.

Capital.
Capital has great male coaches for the boys rec classes and teams, a wonderful boys pre-team and team program, and solid competition teams that score very well.

Fairfax has a very tiny gym, a very small group of boys, a hard time keeping coaches, and they don't do well at competitions.

Has anyone taken Level 1 classes for boys at Capital Gymnastics? Just wondering what to expect. How do they figure out if the kids are ready to move to the next level? How quickly do the kids progress? This question is for the boys program. Thanks!

The rec classes (level 1, etc) have skill tests at the end of each session, and they will let you know at that point if your child is ready to move up a level.

If you're interested in pre-team (usually ages 5 and up) which usually leads to the competitive program, you should ask early on. They will evaluate your child and let you know if they think it would be a good fit.
