Can anyone comment on Furman?

We were impressed by our tour, but the school has recently declined in selectivity. Does anyone here have recent experience with the school and/or can anyone shed light on recent changes there?

Bump! Doesn't anyone have experience with this school? My DC loved it on our visit. I am afraid it is not well known outside the South, and the non-response here is confirming that. I'd appreciate any info about quality of academics, post grad opportunities, what the student body is like, etc. thank you!

I went to grad school with a girl who came from Furman. She was very bright and seemed to have received a good education there.

Definitely not well-known outside the South. I have a relative who went there and liked it, but she's lived in the Carolinas her whole life with no desire to ever move elsewhere. I would not risk it if you want to come back up here after college.

My friend and her husband went there years ago, and now their son attends Furman. He's had a good experience and is considering law or business school. He says classes are small and it is easy to get to know professors, which he appreciates. FWIW, this kid and his parents are from NJ.

My relative went to Furman. The campus is beautiful, the students were nice, and he liked his classes. Greenville has a nice downtown area. My relative went on to grad school in New England and his roommate went to medical school. It is a nice LAC in the South.

My younger brother graduated from Furman recently and loved it. He's an excellent student and he was very happy there -- he was involved in lots of campus activities, got to know his professors, made great friends. His friends are all high achievers who are attending competitive graduate schools and law schools. They are almost all southern originally but they're all over now.

Relatively conservative. Strict rules compared to other colleges
