Another shooting near the National Zoo

Anonymous
WTOP is reporting that someone was shot this afternoon in the vicinity of the National Zoo. On the day following Easter, there was a multiple-victim shooting at the zoo in 2000, another shooting in 2006 and other violence in 2011. What are the DC Police and the Zoo going to do about repeated violence at this event?

Last year they had a very sizeable police presence on Easter Monday. Did they do that today?

The 3000 block of Conn Ave.

I was there today and there was a fair amount of police there.

Given the recent record of violence, it might be a good idea to suspend the event for a few years and lower the temperature before considering whether to reinstate it. It seems a shame that a traditional family day has become violent again. A large police presence takes away from the fun of the event and apparently is no guarantee of safety, either.

After reading about this pattern - day after Easter violence - I deliberately stayed away today. So sad to see the pattern continued. Let's see if it's reported on the local news.

IB Wilson parent to be here.

Wonder if those involved are from our possible choice sets?

Definitely in the citywide lottery.

Why are there shootings at the zoo the day after Easter?? Not understanding why this is a pattern.

Some reports on Channel 9 at 6. They speculate that one or two suspects may have fled into the Woodley Park metro.

Because that's the Easter Monday tradition, as far as I can tell. Some low class thugs have turned something that is supposed to be good into a joke. DCPS needs to stop doing this and keep the hoods in school (assuming they actually attend).

The event has a terrible track record and needs to be modified or cancelled. What used to be a family fun day has now turned into a Monday when helicopter noises are customary.

Fox 5 is saying that the guy accidentally shot himself in the hand. There's no other gunman on the loose.

I think the zoo needs to suspend this event for a while and if it's ever scheduled again, it should be just for elementary kids. We can't tolerate this pattern of violence.

Indeed. This "family day" should be cancelled and only re-launched once violence and shooting is fully dealt with. The news so far:
