Anyone sold part of their land?

I have a house that is close in and has almost 1/2 acre of land. The land is very long and narrow, and we do not make use of at least 1/3 of it. When we bought the house, the land was actually a drawback to us because we are not huge landscaping fans and it takes a lot of work to maintain the plot. The way the land is structured, you can't even really see where it ends without going back there and walking pretty far.

We have several houses that abut our land perpendicularly so I am contemplating reaching out to the neighbors who abut our land at the far end and seeing if they are interested in purchasing some of our land to expand their backyards, which are much smaller than ours. This may seem odd, but it would reduce our upkeep and provide at least a little bit of cash so we could erect a nice fence. Perhaps get down to 1/3 of an acre or something like that.

Does this seem crazy? Anyone have any experience with something like this?

You need to get in touch with a land use or real estate attorney. Depending on what county you're in, you'll need approval from it to subdivide your property.

Just wondering if that's true if she is selling to her neighbors-- there wouldn't really be any subdivision going on (since the neighborhood would have the same number of parcels/owners as before?

Montgomery County has restrictions on subdividing - it depends on the neighborhood. I treid to subdivide my just shy of one acre property and was denied. Each hoase needs 1/2 acre. i was off by 200 sq feet. so now I have an extra 1/2 acre of land just sitting there and taking up all my time for mowing,
