Can't use the passport agency, can't reach anyone at USPS to make an appointment...

How did you get your child's passport? I've called three different "passport acceptance" post offices, and no one ever answers. Do you have to appear in person to make the appointment??
We're already going to have to take time off work and take the kid out of school to make this happen, so I'd appreciate any advice to smooth the process.

I eventualled googled the head of the DC area post offices, got his email address, and emailed him directly c.c.ing my congressman. He replied giving me a number to call which someone actually answered, so I was able to make an appointment.

I showed up at the PO and made an appointment. They don't answer the phone.

New poster. This is good to know. I've been procrastinating on the passport, and hadn't even tried calling yet.

I would totally do that, if I had a congressperson.

Don't suppose you want to share the magic number??

Do a search for a previous thread - some nice DCUM posted the phone number for the Bethesda post office, one which a real person actually answers. So I made the latest appointment that I could there (I think 4 or 4:30), got a notorized form from my DC's dad allowing me to apply for the passport without him being present, left work a few hours early, and finally got it done. Total PIA, and I'll have to go through it one more time before DC is old enough to get one on his own.

The one off of Westlake in North Bethesda near Home Depot has walk in passports on Thursday afternoons - call them for info. Took DD a few weeks ago and it was really easy and quick.

If Bethesda doesn't work for you, go to local post office and make an appointment. That's how I made an appointment at ours.

Even the district has a member of congress, they are nonvoting.

You have to go in person. I showed up 20 minutes before the passport office in the post office opened and they saw me right when they opened.

My experience as well. And, some post offices have Saturday hours so we didn't have to take time off work.
