Mother's Day - go out or eat at home?

What do you usually do? We will have both sets of grandparents visiting. Trying to decide.

I *hate* going out on Mother's Day. It is the biggest day of the year in the restaurant business. I don't like crowds or rushing or noise so we stay at home.

DH cooks brunch and we eat it outside.

Home or picnic. Restaurants are crowded with subpar food on Mother's Day.

We celebrate the Sunday before or after Mother's Day.

We celebrate at home, and the men do all the cooking and childcare. I'd consider a nice brunch when the kids are older, but it would be way too stressful at this stage.

We like to grill if the weather cooperates.

Never, ever go out to eat on Mother's Day.

Get takeout or catered food if you don't want to cook. But don't go out.

My son takes his MIL out to eat. He has never taken me. All I get is a phone call around 8 pm, like he forgot about me and suddenly remembered.

You mean, your DIL, the mother engaged in active parenting, decides that she wants to spend her Mother's Day with her mom, a choice she's perfectly entitled to make.

DS could step it up a bit more, sure, but his job on Mother's Day is to do what the mother of his children wants, primarily.

Eat in, unless you are a member of a private club with a good Mother's Day event.

Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are the worst days to go to a restaurant. The most senior staff take the day off b/c the average diner on those holidays does not tip as well. Because they are turning more tables than usual, the menus tend to be more limited and blah.

And Mrs. Shrew needs to step out of entitlement mode for 30 minutes, encouraging husband to throw Dowager Shrew a Skype call while the kids are still awake.

Sounds like pp has MIL issues plus no sons of her own.

Forgive me, I just couldn't handle the pity post in what was an otherwise practical thread.

We like to do a lunch at home. My mom normally joins us.

This year I'm going to be traveling for work, missing my little boys . We'll celebrate the following weekend, I guess.
