If I am dating someone that is blind, what are the chances that our child would be blind?
Yes, it can be genetic. Sometimes it is not. Ask.
I think macular degeneration is...
I think it depends on why the person is blind.

As the spouse of a person who is legally blind, it most definitely is based on the cause. Some genetic disorders that cause blindness are genetically dominant, others are genetically recessive. Some causes of blindness have nothing to do with genetics. Some are caused by allergic reactions, others are biochemical in nature, and yet others are purely physical reactions. You cannot inherit blindness from someone who was blinded by a chemical burn.
With the information you've presented, the chances of your children becoming blind range from 0 to 100%. |
PP here. I forgot, but the best person to start with is your significant other. Ask them to talk about their blindness, the cause and what things you should know to help that person. Having known many folks that range from legally blind to fully blind, each person may have different things that will help them. If you are in a relationship with this person, they should be reasonable about talking about a significant aspect of their life, including how you two should interact to both help and cope with each other.
