High-speed Internet without cable or phone?

Anonymous
I'm paying $80 a month for RCN cable+Internet. I don't want the cable anymore, but going Internet-only with them is still $60 a month.

Any other reliable Internet-only options out there? Looking for spend closer to $40 a month.

Thanks.

I have DSL + unlimited long-distance through Verizon for $65 a month, although the we're paying for the cheapest, slowest "high speed" internet as part of that.

I have Cox for $45 a month including taxes for internet. If you get cable internet you get basic cable (NBC, ABC, etc) for free.

Some of the lower Comcast tiers might get you closer to $40, but at that point, you might want to consider DSL

Ugh. Thanks, all. Discouraging, but helpful.

I had Comcast for $45/mo for the first 6 months of the contract. After the contract was up, I called them and told them that I wanted to cancel my service because I did not want to pay more than $45/mo for internet and my offer had run out. They lowered the price.

We have Verizon Fios for 22.99 a month. I threaten to cancel so they gave me a permanent credit which lowered my bill.

I'm in DC and pay $10 a month for unlimited subsidized (for any DC resident) wireless internet access through the Connect.DC program. Not as fast as cable or FIOS but fast enough for me.
